Why is being able to prove my supply chain so important on Amazon?
Because on Amazon, your supply chain is your proof of legitimacy - and without it, Amazon assumes you might be selling counterfeit or unauthorised goods, even if you aren’t.
1. Amazon Is Legally Required to Protect Brands
Amazon isn’t just being strict for fun. They are under pressure from:
Brand owners
Governments
Lawsuits over counterfeit goods
So when a brand files a complaint, Amazon’s default position is:
“Prove your product is authentic, or we assume it isn’t.”
They don’t investigate like a court would - they rely almost entirely on documentation.
2. Invoices = Proof of Authenticity
Amazon accepts only one real form of proof:
✅ Commercial invoices from authorised suppliers
NOT accepted:
Retail receipts (TKMaxx, Qogita, Costco, Ebay, Vinted)
Screenshots
Order confirmations
Alibaba invoices (usually)
Facebook/Discord suppliers
Buying from other Amazon resellers
If you can’t show:
Who you bought from
That they were allowed to sell the product
That the quantity matches
That the product matches the ASIN
Then Amazon considers the product unverified.
3. Counterfeit Claims Are Account Killers
A single counterfeit claim can:
Remove your listing
Destroy your account health
Trigger manual account review
Lead to permanent suspension
Multiple claims = almost guaranteed shutdown.
That’s why Amazon treats counterfeit claims more seriously than:
Late shipments
Negative feedback
Pricing issues
4. Amazon Cares More About Paper-proof than Reality
Even if:
Your product is 100% real
You bought it legally
Customers are happy
If you can’t prove it on paper, Amazon assumes risk.
To Amazon:
“No invoice = no proof = potential counterfeit.”
5. Why Serious Sellers Obsess Over Supply Chain
Professional sellers:
Use authorised distributors
Keep invoices organized
Avoid retail arbitrage for branded goods
Track SKUs to invoices
Vet brands before listing
Because once Amazon flags you, you don’t get the benefit of the doubt again.
🧩 Simple Rule to Remember
If you can’t answer YES to all of these, the product is risky:
✔ Can I prove where I bought it?
✔ Is the supplier authorised by the brand?
✔ Does the invoice match the ASIN exactly?
✔ Can I defend this in a suspension appeal?
If not → don’t sell it.
